How do we track the equipments for athletes?

Our research process draws from four primary sources:
Official athlete and artist social media pages — We closely monitor the official Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, and other social media profiles of top athletes and musicians. Athletes frequently post about their training setups and tag their sponsors, while musicians share their rigs, unbox new instruments, and post from rehearsals and tours — giving us a direct window into exactly what they’re using.
Interviews on YouTube and other platforms — Athletes and musicians often discuss their equipment choices in depth during interviews, podcasts, and behind-the-scenes content posted on YouTube and similar platforms. These conversations frequently reveal specific models, sizes, tensions, string gauges, and personal customizations that wouldn’t surface anywhere else.
Official matches, competitions, and performances — When athletes compete at the highest level, the gear they use is on full display. Similarly, musicians performing live on stage or in official recordings use equipment that can be observed and verified. We review footage from official tournaments, matches, concerts, and studio sessions to confirm the exact equipment being used in real performance settings.
Official brand sponsorship pages — Many equipment brands (e.g. Yonex, Gibson, Roland) publish dedicated athlete and artist sponsorship pages that list the specific products their sponsored performers use. These pages serve as authoritative confirmations that cross-reference what we’ve gathered from other sources.
By combining all four of these sources, we build an accurate page for each athlete’s and musician’s equipment setup, and we keep monitoring them so the information stays current.
When do we make corrections and edits?
Athletes switch gear, musicians change instruments, sponsorships change, and new equipment gets released all the time. We’re committed to keeping EquipmentStack as accurate as possible, and we’ve built our site around two mechanisms that make that happen.
Community-reported updates — Every athlete and musician page on EquipmentStack includes a comment section at the bottom. If you discover that someone has switched to new equipment and the page hasn’t been updated yet, you can let us know directly in the comments. To ensure the quality of our data, any reported update must include a verifiable source — a link to a social media post, interview, official match or performance footage, or sponsorship page that confirms the change. Once a submission is verified, we make the edit as quickly as possible so the information stays accurate for everyone.
Ongoing internal monitoring — Beyond community contributions, our team proactively tracks the latest matches, performances, interviews, and social media activity for every athlete and musician featured on the site. We follow competitions and tours as they happen, keep an eye on new sponsorship announcements, and regularly review profiles so that equipment updates are caught and published without needing to wait for a community report.

Lim How Wei is the founder of EquipmentStack.com, a sports enthusiast who has been playing badminton for over a decade. His dedication to the sport goes well beyond the court as he studies past matches, tracks tournaments worldwide, and follows player interviews obsessively. That depth of passion and attention to detail is what inspired him to build EquipmentStack.
Beyond badminton, he has tried a wide range of other sports, including pickleball, sport climbing, jiu-jitsu, and many others, giving him a genuine understanding of what athletes need across many different disciplines. He also has a deep passion for music, having spent years following the instruments and gear setups of world-class musicians across genres, from guitarists and pianists to drummers.
Lim is also the founder of followchain.org, an online marketing platform that reached the top 15 websites in the world at its peak and has been cited by major publications including WikiHow, Fast Company, HuffPost, Vice, and the New York Post.
